This is a drawing I have been working on for the past four days in my Art 1 class. It's a perspective drawing inspired by the show "How I Met Your Mother." In the image, the main character (Ted) is looking down on the city from the rooftop of his apartment. Yet, it's not suicidal. He's not going to jump or anything even though he is very close to the edge. He is entranced by the sharp contrast of the yellow umbrella. Everything else is in black and white to him (and in the drawing), yet this yellow umbrella is full of life and color. He does not know this yet, but the love of his life is holding that umbrella, and later in the show we find out the symbolism of that one bright yellow umbrella. This exact image is not in the show, I was just inspired by the show to create this drawing.
I chose this project because I love New York City and have been watching "How I Met Your Mother" on Netflix. I thought it would be interesting to have the rest of the world in black and white, with just one ray of hope. One yellow umbrella.
