In Unit 2, I learned a lot about shading. One day, we watched a video on how to draw and shade circles to make them look like spheres. This exercise helped me a lot in drawing the inside of my gramophone to make it look three-dimensional.
My view about original art has changed very much throughout this unit. I learned that every work of art is unoriginal, because artists use many bits and pieces of other artists' work to create something new. Artists steal ideas all the time. One challenge I encountered during this unit was the character remix. It is really difficult for me to draw people, and I prefer to draw inanimate objects. Yet, in the long run, I would not change any of the work I have done because (for the most part) I am very happy with how my drawings turned out.

"The Beauty of Music"
This is my most recently finished project. We had to combine two different elements into one picture, so I chose to combine a gramophone with flowers, butterflies, and music notes pouring out of it. Most of my inspiration for this drawing came from pictures I found on Pinterest. I absolutely love music and thing it's a beautiful resource, so I chose flowers and butterflies outpouring from the gramophone to symbolize the beautiful nature of music.
Our spherical shading exercise was extremely useful in helping me shade the inside of the gramophone to make it look three-dimensional. I used black colored pencils to draw the gramophone, and a variety of bright-colored pencils to draw the flowers, butterflies, and music notes. The bright colors of the flowers highlight the vibrancy and excitement of the actual music.
My original sketch contained hot air balloons, but then I decided to just use flowers, butterflies, and music notes to emphasize the beauty of the music. My second sketch honed in on what I really wanted to incorporate in my final drawing, except is drawn in pencil. My final drawing was completed with only the use of colored pencils. Overall, I am really proud of my finished product, and love the contrast made between the bright colors of the music, and the blandness of the gramophone.
